Former legendary Sachem gymnastics coach Ken Freidheim was recently honored by USA Gymnastics as a “Master of Sport.”
USA Gymnastics is celebrating 50 years of Champions this year and is recognizing coaches who have achieved the highest level of coaching distinction in the sport.
Friedheim’s coaching career was cut short in 2005 when Sachem lost it’s men’s gymnastics program. He is still the winningest head men’s gymnastics coach in New York with 324 career victories from 1969-2005.
A former physical education teacher at Sachem High School North, Friedheim is a legend who spent decades coaching and teaching some of Sachem’s finest athletes.
He has coached and officiated on a number of levels, including internationally for many years. His name is synonymous with success in the gymnastics world and he truly is a Master of Sport.
More from USA Gymnastics about being a Master of Sport:
Within each program, USA Gymnastics recognizes coaches that have achieved the highest level of coaching distinction. Select current and past coaches have been recognized with the title of Master of Sport. This is an honorary title awarded to the coaches who have demonstrated their ability to train and produce an athlete that has represented the United States of America in the highest level of competition in a Pan American, World Championship, and/or Olympic Game. As USA Gymnastics celebrates its 50 years of Champions, it is timely to share and celebrate those coaches who have reached a mastery level of their sport. USA Gymnastics is grateful to have coaches such as these that have led the sport with their expertise of coaching knowledge.
