Sachem North’s Ian Junge has committed to play college lacrosse at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, according to Sachem coach Jay Mauro.
Junge, a 6-foot-4 defenseman, was also considering Stony Brook, Sacred Heart and Rutgers.
“Ian has really developed over the last two years,” Mauro said. “He has great feet. He also has a great stick, can push in transition and play great one-v-one defense. We are excited for Ian.”
Junge said he chose UMBC because of its physical therapy program.
“During the process I felt very lucky to be in the position I was in,” he said. “It was a great experience for me and although at times it could be a little stressful, it was a great experience.”
Junge credits his on-field communication skills, speed and quickness as his strengths. Sachem will be relying on Junge on the defensive end in what should be a strong season for the Flaming Arrows.
“I believe this season for us at Sachem North has great potential,” he said. “We have great team chemistry and we play very well together. If we continue to improve and work hard in practice I believe the sky is the limit with this team. With the talent of our team I believe that we will do very well this season and really turn some heads.”
Sachem’s pre-season lax games kick off this week. The Flaming Arrows are ranked No. 4 in the county in pre-season polls.
