Bryan Morris is taking his leg to East Stroudsberg. One of the most prolific high school kickers in Long Island history, Morris made his college commitment last month and is thrilled to take his talents to the next level.
His football career came to an end in December when Sachem won the Class I Long Island championship. Not only did Morris set the record for most points in a career by a kicker on Long Island, he also kicked a field goal that put the Flaming Arrows within striking distance of Farmingdale in the first half.
“I couldn’t be happier for Bryan,” said Sachem coach Dave Falco. “He has worked so hard these past four years to become a great clutch kicker. He benefited from our high powered offense, but took advantage of every opportunity. I know he will do great at Stroudsburg because he works hard at his craft.”
For Morris, the decision did not come easy. He visited 14 schools and traveled over 6,000 miles before he finally chose the institution that made him most comfortable.
He also considering LIU Post, Cortland, Lycoming, Ithaca, Shippensburg, and Hobart, and in the end it really came down to Hobart, ESU and Lycoming, he said.
ESU competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Last season the Warriors finished 7-4.
“Going forward I really need to work on my consistency,” said Morris, who credits his coaches at Sachem, and Luke Gaddis from One-on-One Kicking, with helping him develop over the years. “I have a good range and I also need to work on my kickoff distance.”
Coaches told him they really liked the way the ball comes off his foot.
Pencil September 6 on your calendar. ESU will play at LIU Post, meaning Morris and Sachem teammate Malik Pierre, who committed to Post, will once again be on the same field. This also means Morris’ first college game will be back on Long Island.
