This is a series we started last year on Sachem Report called “Getting to know you …” where we profile random employees from around the Sachem Central School District.
There are so many influential members of the Sachem Family doing amazing work behind the scenes and they deserve recognition as well.
We sat down with Rosana Liberti, a senior clerk typist in Sachem’s Transportation Office. A Sachem alum, Liberti has worked at Sachem since 2006.
How did you end up in your current position? What has your career path been like?
Rosana: After losing my job at Atkins Nutritionals due to downsizing, a friend knew that I was looking for work. She told me to apply to be a clerical sub at Sachem. I applied for a position immediately and was hired! As they say, the rest is history! I am happy to say that I have been with Sachem since 2006.
Briefly describe your day-to-day operations and responsibilities.
Rosana: As a Clerk Typist in the Transportation Office I have several responsibilities. First and foremost is handling bussing issues for our students. Our department deals with all of the schools, several other departments within district, as well as our bussing contractors. I am also responsible for handling field trips for the schools, as well as handling the Private and Parochial applications for students.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Rosana: One of the best parts of my job is knowing that our office always works together as a team to get things accomplished. It’s nice to know that we can count on one another. We all help one another in any way that we can. That caring and willingness to help extends beyond the office.
What separates Sachem from other school districts?
Rosana: I think for me, Sachem holds a special place in my heart since I grew up in this community. My children were taught by some of the teachers that taught me in high school.
What are your interests outside of Sachem? Where can we find you at night or on the weekends?
Rosana: Photography is a passion of mine! You can find me out exploring parks, beaches, New York City… always with my camera in hand! I recently started selling some of my work under the name SNAPPING FOR SAM, in memory of my daughter Samantha who passed away 21 months ago. A portion of the proceeds go towards the foundation that we set up in her memory. The foundation awarded two scholarships to Sachem students last year. We plan to award two more this year also. Last May we held the First Annual Walk for Sam at Sachem North High School and the outpouring of love and generosity from friends and family was overwhelming. All of the monies raised went to the Foundation. We will be holding the walk again this May.
Are you a Sachem alum? If so, what year?
Rosana: I am proud to say that I did graduate from Sachem in 1983!! (Am I really THAT old??). My husband and my 3 children are all Sachem graduates as well!
