It’s hard to believe we’re already thinking about the 2014 high school football season. The Suffolk County Football Coaches Association had its official seeding meeting Tuesday night and hashed out all pre-season seedings and schedules for next fall.
Sachem North, the defending Class I Long Island champions, will open the season ranked No. 3, while Sachem East is ranked No. 11. Connetquot grabbed the top spot, and Patchouge-Medford is ranked No. 2.
Sachem North will open the season at home against rival William Floyd, who is seeded sixth. They’ll travel to Connetquot during Week 2 and host Sachem East for Week 3 before heading to Pat-Med in Week 4. Its Week 7 game against No. 4 Longwood comes at an interesting point in the season and should be a battle as the Lions bring back running back Isaiah White and have a new coaching staff.
Sachem East is seeded lower in the division, and doesn’t play either of the top two seeds, but will travel five miles up Portion Road to play at Sachem North. This marks the fourth straight season the two Sachem schools will play each other, and sixth time since the school district split in 2004.
Sachem East’s homecoming will be during Week 5 against Walt Whitman. Sachem North will host Commack for its homecoming during Week 6.
