Joe Amplo has been a part of many wins at Shuart Stadium and even with a new program, now in his second year as head coach of Marquette men’s lacrosse, he is still winning in Hempstead.
Marquette beat Hofstra, 11-9, Saturday afternoon on what was a Long Island homecoming for a number of Golden Eagles players, as well as Amplo, who graduated from Sachem in 1995 and was an assistant at Hofstra, also his alma mater, for 10 years prior to starting the program in the midwest.
“Hofstra is a great place to play and awesome competition for our guys,” Amplo said in a statement after the game. “It was more about the local kids we have on our team; it was special for them to play in front of their family and friends.”
Marquette, which is competing in the Big East in lacrosse for the first time this season, did not trail once during the contest.
