St. Anthony’s was abuzz with racewalkers this weekend as it hosted the USATF Long Island Race Walk Championships, featuring some of the top competitors in the country.

Among the big names in attendance were Olympian Maria Michta and her sister Kate, both Sachem alums.

Maria walked a 12:42.97 to qualify for Indoor Nationals, as did her coach and Long Island native Tim Seaman, also an Olympian.

“It was nice to come back to LI for a high-level race,” Michta told Newsday. “We didn’t compete at St. Anthony’s when I was in high school. This is an amazing facility. It’s nice to be able to utilize it.”

Michta walked in the 2012 London Olympics and recorded the best American time in the 20k race.

Katie finished the race in 15:04.51.

“She was way ahead of me,” said Katie in an interview with Newsday. “But it was still nice having her in the same race and knowing that we’re racing hard together.”
