Leto, Michels dash to Suffolk’s top times

Alyssa Leto and Melissa Michels moved to the top of Suffolk County leaderboards at the 60th annual Bishop Loughlin Games held at the Armory Saturdayt.

Leto ran a career-best 7.39 in the semi-finals of the 55 meter dash to advance to finals. She  ran 7.42 in finals to place fourth in the race in which Michels ran a career-best 42.13 in the 300 meter dash.

Both sprinters moved to the top of Suffolk County leaderboards with their outstanding races.

Michels holds the number two county ranking in the 55 meter dash behind her teammate and training partner Leto.

They joined up with teammates Leah Blackall and Nikki Fogarty to run Suffolk’s second fastest 4×200 meter relay later in the meet.  Sachem’s time of 1:49.05 is behind North Babylon county-leading 1:45.68 time.

Sachem returns to the Armory next week for the Marine Corps Holiday Classic (12/27).

  • Season-Bests: Rookie frosh Samantha Sommers sprinted an 8.17 in the 55 m. dash.   Teammates Ali Van Sicklin and Ariana Mosquera also season-bested in the 55.  Monica Abrams, Sachem’s lone distance squad runner at the meet, season-bested in the 600.
  • Top-Times: Sachem’s 4×200 “A” team of Leto-Michels-Fogarty and Michels ran the No. 7 fastest all-time relay in Sachem history. Sachem’s 4×200 B team is the No. 2 fastest Frosh-Soph 4×200 in Sachem history.  The relay (1:58.45) ran less than one second behind the leading Top Times list mark of 1:57.50 run by Alyssa Stevenson, Christina Vasquez, Lindsay Eberhard and Gina Medici in 2006.

Katie’s Sachem North teammates Kaitlin Martins and Natalie DeQuarto were also at the meet.
