Four students at Merrimac Elementary School have been busy this holiday season helping others.
Danielle Wanerka, Jake Moore, Mookie Malone, and Veronica Dindial developed the school’s 7 Habits Giving Tree.
Every child/family who donates to the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital will receive an unfinished wooden ornament to put on the tree. They can decorate the ornaments to reflect the 7 Habits.
“Projects like these really show the students are internalizing the Leader in Me process,” said Merrimac Principal Veronica DeCicco. “They are thinking about how they can contribute the larger community. They see the big picture. The other students at Merrimac and our school community embrace these student-generated ideas and help make them happen.”
