Sachem North junior defender Emily Bellino has officially verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
UMass Lowell is a new Division I program and will kick off its America East Conference play in the spring of 2015, right when Bellino is ending her varsity career at Sachem.
“I chose UMass for the great opportunities it offers on and off the field,” she said. “The American East Conference offers great athletic competition. I also really enjoy the Boston area and my new coach [Carissa Medeiros] is awesome.”
Bellino was also considering American University, Marist, Binghamton and Salisbury.
“Committing to a Division I school as a junior was a huge decision but I know I made the right choice,” she said.
Bellino added that UMASS Lowell is a perfect fit for her both athletically and academically.
“Finally ending the recruiting process was a huge weight off my shoulders,” she said. “I am very happy with my decision to attend UMass and look forward to my years as a collegiate student-athlete.”
