Earlier this school year, Sachem North senior Paul La Francesca committed to SUNY Maritime and signed his National Letter of Intent along with nearly a dozen teammates at a signing ceremony at the high school in November.
A defenseman, he blossomed during his junior year at Sachem.
“He plays with an edge and really worked on his stick to get him on the field towards the end of last spring,” said Sachem coach Jay Mauro. “He has been working hard to earn himself playing time in the spring of 2014.”
La Francesca said he was also considering Pfeiffer University, Tampa and Pace.
He’ll be studying electrical engineering at Maritime, which finished 4-12 last season and 0-6 in the Skyline Conference.
Before setting foot in the college world, La Francesca is focused on this spring, which could be special for Sachem.
“Playing for Sachem North has been an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything else in the entire world,” he said. “Everyone who plays lacrosse for North is a part of a very big family that would do anything for each other. This group of guys is special and I believe that we have the ability to go as far as we want to go. Our chemistry together and our overall skill will take us far coming this spring.”
