Sachem East sophomore Cara Trombetta has officially verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Florida.
Trombetta also had offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina, Duke, Delaware and Hofstra.
She plans on studying biology and potentially going to med school after finishing her undergraduate degree and college lacrosse career.
She will play defense and midfield for the Gators, who finished the 2013 season with an 18-3 record and a share of the American Lacrosse Conference championship, a final Division I ranking of No. 5, and has appeared in three of the last five NCAA DI tournaments.
Trombetta will play one more varsity season with her sister Katie this spring at Sachem East before Katie goes off to Michigan on a field hockey scholarship. Both sisters were First Team All-County the last two seasons.
Between their mother Patricia playing field hockey at Michigan, father Chris playing lacrosse at Delaware, uncle Mike Farley playing football at Cornell and aunt Kerry playing basketball at Cornell, this is one high-level athletic family who likes to succeed on the next level.
