Sachem East got the best of Sachem North in a boys basketball rivalry game Friday evening.
In the opening game of the 2013-2014 season, East beat North, 78-47.
Funds were raised during the game to raise money for the annual Bernard Brisson scholarships given to deserving student-athletes at the end of the school year.
Sachem East’s (1-0) Jesse Condon led all scorers with 22 points in the contest. James Bassford led Sachem North (0-1) with 17 points.
Danny Wolff, who scored 20 points, nailed a slam dunk with ease in the second quarter for Sachem East.
The most exhilarating moment of the game for Sachem North was when Malik Pierre hit a three pointer as time expired in the first quarter from the opposite side’s three-point arc.
Wolff scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half as Sachem East took a 46-19 lead into halftime and didn’t look back.
Wolff and Condon hit four three-point shots each.
Sachem North did see some production out of Nakhari Nelson, who scored 12 points.
Sachem North head coach Tim Mullee missed the game because his wife gave birth to their new son Thomas on Friday evening.
Both programs are in action again Tuesday. Sachem North plays at William Floyd at 4 p.m. and Sachem East plays at Connetquot at 6 p.m.
The Sachem North football team unveiled its championship seasons on an updated banner in the gym during halftime.
