Sachem North closed out its 2013 cross country season at the 35th annual Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championship race at Van Cortlandt Park’s five kilometer course this past weekend.
Six Arrows runners joined a talented field of harriers from 12 states from Maryland to Maine that made up the Foot Locker race field.
Elise Ramirez led Sachem with a strong effort in the Championship Girls Race. Her time of 20:10 was more than 30 seconds faster than her time last year. Elise’s season, beginning with a race win at the Peconic Invitational on September 12 and concluding with her championship race, was one of the finest ever run by a Sachem North cross country athlete.
Senior Dowon Hwang was running Foot Locker for the third straight year. Dowon’s brilliant running in the tough back woods section of the race course moved her up eighteen places in her race field.
Dowon’s 16th place finish in the Senior Division of her race earned her Foot Locker All-Northeast Second Team honors. Dowon earned All-Northeast honors in all three of her Foot Locker races.
Dowon’s sophomore teammate Emily Lin ran in her first Foot Locker race today. Lin capped off her outstanding rookie cross country season with her fastest 5K race time of 21:58.3 – more than one minute faster than her previous season-best of 22:59.43 run in her last race at Section XI’s Division Championship Meet on October 22. Emily’s 22nd place finish in her race earned her Foot Locker All-Northeast Third Team honors.
Eighth grade team member Gabriella Mott closed out her wonderful rookie season on the varsity cross country team as the first junior high school finisher in the Open Division race. Seniors Patricia Romano and Ashley Miskovsky also had memorable days in their first-ever runs at Foot Locker today.
After well-deserved breaks next week, the Foot Locker squad will rejoin their Sachem North winter track and field teammates for an exciting indoor season.
