What’s left to say about this game? We seemingly say the same thing every time these teams play. It’s Sachem North vs. Floyd, the top teams in Suffolk County’s Division I as usual.
Both teams can run and pass with the best of them and have improved drastically from when they saw one another during Week 6 of the regular season.
Perhaps the only difference this season is that the championship game itself will be played during the day at Noon to make for a slightly different setting. Will it matter? The players will perform regardless, day or night.
Sachem North (8-2) comes into the contest having beaten Northport and Connetquot in its first two playoff games. William Floyd (8-2) beat Patchogue-Medford and upset top-seeded Commack to get to the county final.
The Colonials have won 11 of the last 13 county championships and are two-time defending Long Island champions as well right now. They have beaten Sachem North three out of the last four years in the title game, and once in the semifinals last season, the same year they knocked off Sachem East in the final. Sachem has not won a county championship since 1995 and is looking for its seventh in program history.
