Taylor Giordano has been one of the biggest scoring threats on Long Island all season and now her scoring touch is being noticed on the state level.
The Sachem East junior standout led the Arrows with three goals in a 4-0 victory over Kingston in the New York State Class A semifinals Saturday at Cicero North High School in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Arrows will face Shenendehowa or Fairport in the final at 3 p.m. Sunday in the championship game.
This is the third straight year Sachem East is playing for a state championship. Only one other team in Long Island history has won three straight field hockey state titles, and Sachem East coach Tina Moon was an athlete on those squads.
Sachem East (21-0) took a 3-0 lead into halftime and had control of the game from the start. Kyle Larkin scored the game’s other goal. Katie Trombetta had two assists. Katie Shanahan also had an assist.
Sachem East has not lost a game since Oct. 24, 2011, a stretch of 752 days. That’s a mark of 64-1 over the last three seasons, including 50 straight since the last loss.
According to the NYSPHSAA, the record for consecutive wins for a program is 87 set by Marathon High from 2001-2003. The Long Island record is 61 set by Garden City from 2005-2007. Sachem East currently holds the Suffolk County record.
