Anthony Coccia and Isaac Garcia-Cassani represented Sachem North and the boys cross country team at the NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championships held at Queensbury High School last weekend.
In the most competitive race of the day, the Class A race, Coccia placed 31st overall and in doing so broke the 16 minute barrier for the 5k en route to his personal best time of 15:57.
In his first year running cross country, Garcia-Cassani continued a stellar season that included a trip to the state championship meet by running an impressive 16:16 placing him 47th in the race of over 100 of New York State’s best runners.
On Sunday the team also found out that they had qualified for the New York State Federation Championships held this coming Saturday at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
This race includes the top 16 public school teams, the top 6 Catholic schools, and the top 5 New York City schools in the state.
