It’s the most wonderful time of the year. High school football playoffs begin Friday night at Sachem under the lights at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium. No. 3 Sachem (6-2) will host No. 6 Northport (4-4) in the first round.
Both teams met earlier in the season with Sachem winning, 34-20.
Sachem’s Malik Pierre has emerged as the do-it-all stud over the last few weeks. He’s always been consistent, but he has played extraordinarily well on both sides of the ball when it mattered most the last two weeks as Sachem earned timely wins against Lindenhurst and Patchogue-Medford.
The Tigers always present one of the best coached rosters in Suffolk’s Division I. They can pass and run with efficiency and should not be taken lightly.
Sachem must continue its strong and heady play on defense for the duration of this 2013 campaign. The Flaming Arrows have only allowed 13 points over the last week, and it’s a direct result of defensive adjustments, simplifying schemes and alignments and it has paid off.
Trent Crossan, who has nursed an ankle injury all season, won’t play against Northport.
