Sachem North is officially seeded third in the Suffolk County Division I playoffs and will host No. 6 Northport in the quarterfinals next Friday night at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium.
Sachem (6-2) captures a Big Four championship for the 16th time in program history by finishing as one of the top four teams in Division I. This marks the fifth straight season of being a Big Four champ after 11 straight seasons from 1992-2002. The current playoff structure and “Big Four” style was implemented in 1992.
Sachem and Northport, who finished 4-4 in the regular season, played during Week 4 and the Flaming Arrows won, 34-20. Malik Pierre had 200 rushing yards on 17 carries in the game.
Sachem is 20-4-2 all-time against the Tigers, and have outscored them 675-397. The programs have faced one another three times in the playoffs (2-1 Sachem), most recently in 2010, which was a 42-21 win for the Flaming Arrows.
