With his 176-yard performance on senior night Friday against Pat-Med, Sachem senior captain and running back Malik Pierre reached the 2,000-yard rushing mark for his career.
He now ranks sixth all-time in Sachem history with 2,130 rushing yards behind arguably the biggest names in the program’s 52-year history. There are only seven players, including Pierre, to reach the milestone.
While Pierre most likely won’t reach the 3,000-yard mark, he can pass Davon Lawrence (2,166) and Michael Botti (2,219) before his high school career ends in a few weeks.
James O’Neal, who played in 1994 and 1995 at Sachem, holds the program record of 3,786 yards.
Pierre has 797 rushing yards this season and is 203 away from a 1,000-yard year. Believe it or not, there have only been 13 players in Sachem history to rush for 1,000-plus yards in a single-season. As a senior he’s averaging 8 yards per carry.
He also now has 25 career touchdowns and currently has a 10.7 yards per carry average for his career, which ranks second all-time in Sachem behind Lawrence’s record of 10.9.
