Sachem alum Louis Gregory continues to make his way around the entertainment scene. Recently he found himself playing in the Jeff Conine Celebrity Poker Classic at Calder Casino & Race Course, which benefits the Conine Clubhouse at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
“It was for a great cause,” said Gregory, better known as Uncle Louie in entertainment and social media circles. “I had a great time and I got to eat a lot of cookies while talking shop with Jeff Conine. I had a blast playing poker with a bunch of baseball and football players.”
Conine Clubhouse is a free of charge home-away-from-home for families, while their children are patients at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, according to the facilities website. More than 7,000 families have called the Conine Clubhouse their home at a most important time in their lives.
Weston Jewelers was a sponsor of the event, so Gregory had to represent well playing on behalf of Ed Dykes, the CEO.
“I went all in three times and was out before the end of the first round,” he said.
The only Celeb he outlasted was Dan LeBatard from ESPN.
Conine is Gregory’s neighbor and Weston Jewelers is where their love of watches crossed paths. Dykes donated two watches from Weston Jewelers to the tourney.
Last month Gregory was with Goldberg as he speared his way to the hearts of Miami Marlins fans at their ball park last month.
“After the tournament I called my buddy Brad Penny who pitched his way to a Marlins World Series Ring and he told me that next year he will join me for some Texas Hold ’em to benefit Conine Clubhouse,” he said. “With any luck, I’ll convince my buddy Bill Goldberg to be all in too!”
