The Sachem North boys cross country team won the Varsity “A” race at the Suffolk Coaches Invitational held at Sunken Meadow State Park.
The boys were led by Anthony Coccia’s fifth place finish, John Onken’s sixth place finish, Dan Block’s tenth place finish, Isaac Garcia-Cassani’s 12th place finish, Dan Stretz’s 18th place finish, Mark Difulvio’s 25th place finish and Nick Castro’s 38th place finish.
The boys outpaced the second place team 48-114 and defeated 28 teams in the race. Their 5-man average was the fastest out of the 49 teams that competed in the meet.
In the Junior Varsity race, Michael Neftleberg won the race and led the Arrows to a second place team finish. In the freshman race Sachem had another winning runner in freshman sensation Jon Lauer who won the race by 6 seconds and led the Arrows to a third place team finish.
The team is currently ranked second in Suffolk County and 14th in New York State. They continue their dual meet season this Tuesday at Belmont Lake State Park against the Lindenhurst Bulldogs.
