Sachem’s Facilities Study Committee will be charged by the Board of Education to study all options involving District owned facilities to meet projected future budget requirements. The committee members will be chosen for their ability to represent the interests of the District as a whole. This is not a discussion type of committee.
There will be homework assignments between meetings with information to be brought back to the committee. The committee will be charged with investigating all viable options and generating a list of all pros and cons of such options for the Board of Education to consider.
The committee will assist the expert commissioned by the District to perform a Facilities Study to gather information and input relevant to his study. The expert will present his findings and may make recommendations to the Board based upon the results of his study, but the Board of Education shall be responsible for deciding the course of action which will be taken at the conclusion of the study.
The final decision solely rests with the Board of Education whose top priority is to strive to maintain academic quality. The educational impact as well as economic factors and social issues will be considered. It is envisioned that there will be approximately 10 meetings spaced two weeks apart.
