Sachem North alum and former Valedictorian Ruchi Shah continues to impress.
She was recently nominated to give a TED talk and the final portion of the selection is open to a public vote. She needs your help!
“Giving a TED talk has been a dream of mine and I hope I will have the honor of raising awareness about science research and education through my talk,” she said.
The voting process is entirely through Facebook. There are four candidates and the person with the most likes on their picture on the tedxsbu page by September 18 gets the talk!
This text, which explains what Ruchi would speak about for TED, is posted on the Facebook page:
Inspired by a trip to India at the age of 15, Ruchi independently created an all-natural and inexpensive mosquito repellent that has been recognized by national and international organizations. A cancer researcher, a cappella singer, science writer, and sophomore at Stony Brook University, Ruchi is looking forward to sharing her journey with science and her passion for making science accessible to all ages and populations. Ruchi is excited to expand upon issues she addressed as the youngest speaker at the Forbes Women’s Summit, including the need for mentorship, societal views of science, and science education. She hopes to increases awareness about the integral role of science in daily life by sharing her journey from inventing a product to aid developing countries, to researching more precise biomarkers to diagnose cancer.
