Last season was the year of Steven Casali. For Sachem East, 2013 is the year of Danny Wolff. The senior leader sets the tone for the Arrows, and while he’ll look to lead them to the playoffs for the third straight season, he is also on the cusp of some personal history in the Sachem East record books.
After an extremely successful campaign in 2012, where he was able to pass at will thanks to a strong receiving core of Brian Balsamo and Ryan Dippel, which complimented the hurricane that was Casali, he should once again flash his arm throughout his senior season.
Here’s a look at Danny Wolff’s career passing numbers (2011-present):
- 167 attempts
- 80 completions
- 1,085 yards
- 8 touchdowns
Here’s a look at the records Wolff will chase this year:
- Career passing attempts: 278, Mike Westerhaus (2007-2009)
- Career passing completions: 140, Westerhaus
- Career passing yards: 1,521, Westerhaus
- Career passing touchdowns: 15, Westerhaus
Wolff should walk away with at least seven touchdowns and 436 passing yards this season, which would tie two of the records. If all goes well and new offensive coordinator Phil Torregrossa uses Wolff’s passing ability enough this year, he should also throw for 60 or more completions and nab that record. Either way, he’ll graduate as one of the top quarterbacks in school history and the only one to date to lead his team to an appearance in a county championship.
Other notes from Sachem East’s record book
- Connor Farrell currently ranks fifth all-time in Sachem East history with 91 total tackles. He’ll be the fifth player in school history to reach the 100 total tackle mark at some point early in the 2013 season. While Steven Casali graduated with a largely untouchable program-record 214, Farrell can pass Mike Marchello (108), Mike Sievers (107), and Matt Ferber (105) with ease.
- Zach Geer already owns the career sacks record (10) at East, so he’ll continue to pile on to his mark.
- Steven Puagnco is 28 extra point attempts from setting the career mark for PATs. He has 27 and the record is 54 held by Russell Draghi (2004-2005).
