Rudolph R. DeSantolo, a longtime teacher and administrator who served the Sachem Central School District from 1959-1995, passed away Friday.
DeSantolo was an Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, now known as the Office of Student Services in Sachem. He was also the head of Special Education and started SEPTA.
There is a plaque outside Samoset Middle School dedicating the Office of Student Services to him (see photo above).
Prior to becoming an administrator, he was an English teacher and guidance counselor in Sachem.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Smithtown, across Rte. 111 from the Smithtown Library.
