In the history files at Sachem’s District Office is a document titled, “Do you know the facts?,” which breaks down the detail regarding Sachem’s Centralization in 1955 when the school district was originally formed.
The document includes:
- A list of measures taken to that point of the Centralization
- A list of things left to be done, including starting a high school program
- An explanation for the “sudden rush” to Centralization
- A timeline of events that lead to the Centralization
- A copy of the official ballot for the Centralization vote

Editor’s note: The following is an installment of an ongoing historical series about the Sachem Central School District. I have the great pleasure of exploring Sachem’s historic archives and bringing to light stories that have been out of sight for decades.
