The Sachem Central School District is pleased to announce The Umbrella Project: Together for a Better World on display at Sachem High School East. Loretta Corbisiero’s students from Sachem High School East and Kerin Crowley’s students from Seneca Middle School hand painted umbrellas to be used in an anti-bullying campaign.

The Umbrella Project is a non-profit organization founded by Hilda Brown to give children around the world “protection from the storms of life.”  Using umbrellas, the universal symbol of protection, children are empowered through global exhibitions, positive self-esteem and making a difference through their art.

Each year The Umbrella Project partners with other not-for-profit organizations around the world to support international communication and to teach children that by joining together we can promote global unity.

This year’s theme is “Together for a Better World” which promotes unity and peace -proceeds will support a global anti-bullying initiative through an off Broadway production.

Using the power of art and unity the students worked collaboratively to make a difference. The umbrellas painted by students from Sachem High School East will be on display until June 24, 2013.

The universal language of art and a creative spirit allows students to design one-of-a-kind creations that will help children in need.
