Sequoya Middle School hosted its first Career Day event on Friday afternoon. Hundreds of students walked through the gymnasium and met more than 70 professionals from varying occupations.
The event was put together by Sequoya teachers Jessica Frank and Jennifer Jargo.
“Essentially our goal was to reach the students by providing role models and mentors for them to connect with and hopefully aspire to achieve that career,” Frank said. “The most important thing was for them to learn what was involved in the background in going for that career.”
Students carried question sheets and recorded from the professionals about their careers, their educational background and the daily bullet points of their occupation.
A number of Sachem alums were featured, including Olympian Maria Michta. There were any number of occupations represented from fire fighters to professional athletes and everything in between.
“We had such a diverse mix and it was a pleasure to see the community come out to inspire our students,” Frank said. ” There was someone for every student to connect with.”
