The Sachem North girls lacrosse team was clicking early and often on Wednesday afternoon jumping out to a 12-2 halftime lead in route to a 16-9 win in Division I girls lacrosse against Brentwood.
A season high seven Flaming Arrows found the back of the cage including six different first half scorers. Junior Jessica Mazliah led the way for the Flaming Arrows compiling a stat sheet stuffing 2 goals, 5 assists, 8 ground balls, and 6 draw controls. Freshman Brittani Sergio had a career-high six points including an assist.
Sophmore Brooke Basso started the scoring for the Arrows at the 23:14 mark of the first half. Sachem led 2-0 when Sergio and Junior Kat Avanzato, who finished with two goals and one assist, scored just nine seconds apart making it 4-0 Arrows.
Brentwood would score their only 2 goals of the half before Sachem responded with a 8 goal run to close the first including a Natural Hat Trick by Senior Tricia Barret (three consecutive goals).
Sachem would extend their led to 16-6 during the second half when Junior Kirsten Roche scored the second of her first two varsity goals. After Cailia Hendrickson replaced Sophomore Kaitlyn Lynch, who finished with 10 saves in the cage, Brentwood scored three goals in the final 1:31 to make the final 16-9.
“We played very unselfish today. I believe we had nine team assists which is a season high for us,” said Sachem coach Ed Manly. “It is nice to see everyone get a chance to contribute. Friday is going to be a huge game for us.”
