The Sachem North Varsity Arrowettes competed at the NDA Nationals in Orlando this past weekend and returned home as defending Small Varsity Jazz Champions.
The category had 29 routines, which is a large number of competitors. The Arrowettes were in first pre-lims and held that spot to win the championship in finals, according to coach Katherine Prusinski.
Sachem received an Innovative Choreography award for its Jazz routine and also received an award for being the highest scoring Jazz routine of the entire competition.
Their other three routines placed high as well: hip hop received third place with a Technical Excellence award, the pom routine received third place with an Innovative Choreography award and the Team Performance routine received third place with a Superior Showmanship award. Overall, Sachem placed fourth and runner up in the overall Grand Champion rankings for the entire competition.
“To say this team danced amazing this past weekend is an understatement,” said Prusinski. “They performed under a large amount of pressure and still blew everyone away with their passion for dance. As their coach, I am at a loss for words. I have never been so excited to watch a team dance than I was to see them on that stage at Hard Rock Live in Florida.”
Their jazz routine was dedicated to Sachem North JV coach Samantha Liberti who passed away last year.
“Her spirit lifted us to dance incredible this weekend,” Prusinski said, who also credited her assistant coach David Maczkiewicz with being a major reason for the team’s success as well. “I could not be more proud of the Sachem North Varsity Arrowettes on their accomplishments at NDA Nationals this weekend. Not only are they talented, but they are the nicest and most hard working group of girls you could meet.”
