The Sachem East girls basketball team kept up its winning ways with a 54-42 victory over Southampton in the overall Suffolk County championship Friday night.
East (20-2) will play for its first Long Island title since 2010 on Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m. against either Uniondale or Massapequa at Hofstra University.
Kathleen Everson led the Arrows with a career-high 25 points, and six rebounds, while teammates Katie Doherty scored 13 points and Emily Carmel had eight points. All three were named to the All-Suffolk County Tournament team.
Sachem East led 23-15 at the half and held Southampton to single-digit scoring in each of the first two quarters.
Five different players on Sachem’s roster recorded points in the victory.
East and Southampton played earlier in the season with a similar outcome. Sachem won, 59-47, in the non-league battle.
Southampton won the Suffolk County Class B championship and will play Cold Spring Harbor on Wednesday for a shot at the Class B Long Island title.
