The top two teams in Suffolk County’s Class AA girls basketball playoff bracket will square off in the championship Tuesday night.
Second-seeded Sachem East (18-2) will go head-to-head with top-seeded North Babylon (20-1) in one of the most highly anticipated games of the 2012-13 season.
Sachem East brings the duel-threat of Kathleen Everson and Katie Doherty, while North Babylon has a three-headed punch in Makeda Nicholas, Brianna Jones and Brittany Hicks.
Both teams are perennial contenders. Sachem East last won a county, island and state title in 2010, while North Babylon last won in 2008. East also lost to Copiague in 2009 and Deer Park in 2011 in the county final.
The Bulldogs enter the championship having knocked off Commack, 47-45, in the other Class AA semifinal, while Sachem East beat Whitman, 38-23. The key take away from Sachem’s win was its 14-0 run in the third quarter that lead to the eventual win.
