The Suffolk County swimming championships and state qualifying meet was held Saturday at Suffolk County Community West in Brentwood.
Sachem North had two relays that are county champions. The 200 Free Relay consisting of Kyle Beigay, Chris Tutone, Greg Coleman, and James Donlevy took first with a time of 1:29.52, which is four one hundredths away from the school record.
Sachem’s 400 Free Relay consisting of Tutone, Chris Penteck, Coleman and Donlevy are also county champs after taking first with a time of 3:16.64, which is very close to a 31-year old school record.
Both relays they are going for the school record up at states in Rochester in two weeks. Donlevy, who will swim at the University of Connecticut, also won the 50 yard freestyle making him a two-time county champion in this event. His winning time was 21.36. James also took second in the 100 freestyle as well. He is going to states for the 50 and 100 as well.
Penteck took second in the 100 yard backstroke with a state qualifying time of 54.37. Coleman took second in the 100 yard butterfly that also is a state qualifying time of 53.92.
This is the most Sachem coach Larry Saposnick has ever sent up to states in his 12 years coaching swimming.
