Coming off a cross-country season in which she red-shirted to save eligibility and continue her training for the current indoor track season and the upcoming outdoor track season, Sachem East alum Rachel Paul has been experiencing early success on the track as a freshman Hoya at Georgetown.
Her 3,000-meter time of 9:22.30 (run at the Penn State National Invitational where she placed second overall, a lifetime best by over :20 sec) is currently out of the NCAA rankings, but is currently the fastest freshman time in the nation, according to Georgetown head coach Mike Smith.
Her mile time of 4:41.12 (run at the Armory Collegiate Invitational where she placed third overall, a lifetime best by :10 sec) is good for 33rd on the NCAA mile rankings and leaves her as the fourth fastest freshman in the nation over that distance.
Paul has already earned Big East Championship qualifying times in the 800-meter, 1,000-meter, mile, and 3,000-meter with aspirations of scoring big in her conference meet and earning a spot in the NCAA championship meet.
