The honors just keep piling up for Sachem East junior Katie Trombetta. It was announced Tuesday that she was officially named to the U.S. Under-17 Junior National Field Hockey team.
From the Junior National Camp, a select number of athletes were invited to attend a winter training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Cali. Following the winter training 18 under-17 athletes were selected to represent the U.S. Junior National Squad on an international tour this spring, according to a release from U.S. Field Hockey.
This has been a grueling tryout process spaning many months. More than 100 athletes were selected from a number of events to attend the Junior National Camp held at the University of Massachusetts in July. At the camp, athletes received daily tactical sessions from some of the top field hockey coaches in the country, followed by test matches in the evening.
Trombetta, who already gave a verbal commitment to play at the University of Michigan, was Long Island’s top scorer in 2012 as she led Sachem East to its second straight state championship. She was an All-American, All-State, All-Long Island, All-County, All-Division selection last season and should repeat as such as a senior next year.
Sachem Report will be monitoring Trombetta’s spring tour with Team USA, so check back for more news and information.
