Sachem Athletic Director Pete Blieberg was quoted this week in a Newsday column about former North Babylon football star Jason Gwaltney, who was arrested recently on burglary and weapons charges.
Gwaltney, Long Island’s all-time leading rusher, played at North Babylon while Blieberg was the athletic director at rival East Islip.
“He was like a man among boys,” Blieberg told Newsday. “He was just awesome. The power and strength, his ability, low to the ground running, turning ordinary plays into long touchdown runs.”
Sachem, who competes in Division I, did not compete against North Babylon, a Division II school, when Gwaltney was on the team.
