Sachem alum Joe Amplo and his Marquette University lacrosse team spent time this week delivering toys to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, according to a release from the school’s athletic department.
The Golden Eagles promoted a semester-long toy drive and collected thousands of dollars used to purchase gifts from local department stores.
“Our kids did a great job getting the word out on campus, and it was something that the community was able to rally around,” said Amplo in a statement.
About a dozen student-athletes and members of the Marquette coaching staff loaded vans Thursday to deliver the gifts.

“Marquette is about service and giving and being excellent in everything that we do,” Amplo added. “This was an important initiative for us to establish our culture as a program, fit in within the community and stand for everything that Marquette stands for.”
Marquette lacrosse is entering its first full season in 2013. Marquette was a longtime assistant coach at Hofstra University before accepting the position to pioneer a program that should change the face of lacrosse in the midwest.
Amplo was a lacrosse and football player at Sachem, and is also an alum of Hofstra.
