Led by Shannon O’Hehir’s fifth place finish, the Sachem East girls cross country team placed second in the Division 1 Cross Country Championships Tuesday, scoring 56 points to Northports 29.
Sachem North was a close 3rd with 79 points.
Sachem East did manage to edge Northport last weekend at the Brown University Invitational in Rhode Island, finishing fifth to Northport’s sixth, but despite a solid performance from the entire squad East was not able to pull off another upset.
Kaitlin Di Martino (8th), Ciara Murphy (11th), Jayda Allen (16th), and Karli Murphy (18th), all contributed to the scoring with Nicole Silvestre, Katie Hempfling, and Holly Lindoe providing strong support.
The girls will get to face off against Northport, Sachem North, and the rest of class “A” one more time, Friday November 2nd, in the County Class “A” Championship race at Sunken Meadow.
This meet also serves as the State Qualifying meet, the winning team and the top 5 individuals who are not part of the winning team will earn spots in the New York State Cross Country Championships up in Buffalo the following weekend.
