Sciortino named Rising Star by City and State

When Joseph Sciortino graduated from Sachem High School in 2004 he was driven to extend his skills beyond the throws of mediocrity.

And while others were content with standard degrees in fields with somewhat secure professions, Sciortino embarked on a career in public policy and government, a land of unknown twists and turns. That journey is only beginning for Sciortino, 25, but already he is witness to the fruits of his labor.

This week, Sciortino and 39 other promising young talent from New York City were honored as Rising Stars by City and State New York, an annual selection of the top 40-under-40. Sciortino is Chief of Staff for the Staten Island Borough President, James Molinaro.

“I always had a passion to be a special envoy, to go out there in the world,” Sciortino told City and State. “Through mentors and life experiences I developed a passion for international affairs and urban affairs—how to make a city like New York even better and greater for everyone who works here.”
