Sachem High School East held its second annual “Run to Remember” on Saturday. Hundreds participated in the 5k that is meant to raise money for an eventual monument that will honor victims who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11.

Sachem East Principal Lou Antonetti said they hope to break ground on the monument this spring. Sachem North unveiled its monument last year for the 10th anniversary.
“Hopefully we can build up participation year after year with this,” Antonetti said. “A lot of families were affected by 9/11 in the Sachem community. With a district the size of Sachem, this makes it more intimate as a way to remember.”
Adam Quinn of Port Jefferson was the overall race winner, while Dana Mayola of Medford had the best female time.
