As expected Sachem East came out in Week 1 and delivered on the seismic ground attack by Steven Casali.
Once known as the “man child” for his size as a young player, Casali is simply a man now. His monster frame and speed accounted for 239 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Sachem East’s 41-26 victory over Northport at home Friday night.

Casali, who scored on rushes of 75, 11 and 2 yards, broke the career touchdown record, passing Matt Ferber, who had 21, and the career rushing record, also held by Ferber. Casali now has 24 touchdowns and 1,975 rushing yards.
Next up for Casali is the East total yardage record (2,020), also held by Ferber. Casali already holds the single season touchdown and rushing yard marks set last year.
Kenny Whigham was also a threat out of the backfield against the Tigers (0-1), rushing five times, but scoring on three of those carries. He totaled 67 yards.
Junior quarterback Danny Wolf was 3-for-6 passing and threw for 34 yards. East (1-0) totaled 410 rushing yards in the win.
The Arrows will travel to William Floyd (0-1) next Saturday at 2 p.m. for their Week 2 battle.
