Sachem North junior quarterback Trent Crossan watched as his older brother Dalton competed in a season-long bout against William Floyd’s Stacey Bedell for prime position on Long Island’s premier football stage last year. When it was all said and done, they both won the Hansen Award given to the top football player in Suffolk County and both received scholarships to play Division I football in college. Their friendship lives on.
For the younger Crossan, he and Floyd quarterback A.J. Otranto have a similar bond. They’ve shared pointers in the off-season and will once again take the stage this season as Sachem North and Floyd will battle for prime position in Suffolk County’s Division I.
“A.J. is a great kid. We have a lot in common,” Crossan told Newsday’s Bob Herzog. “We have great respect for each other and for each other’s teams.”
Floyd and Sachem North, seeded 1 and 2 respectively in Division I, could play for a fourth straight season in the county final come November. Only Sachem is looking for a different outcome this time around.
